Halloween's A Comin'!

I've had to take a few days away from dollmaking for a mental health break. Now I have a request for Halloween dollyes for a galley in the Fort Myers, Fl river district. I think I will cheat a bit and use 2 dollyes that I started on a year or two ago but still needs some sculpting. Check back in a day or two for beginning photos.

New Dollye or Two

Per request by a gallery in Fort Myers' River District I am working on a couple of Halloween Dolls. I have several that I started a year to two ago but never finished. I thought I would go ahead and see if I could finally finish them as witches or something for the gallery. I'll post pics a day or two. Stay well! Jan

A Really Big Dollye!

First if all I must thank doll artist Paula Nerhus for so sweetly giving her blessing in posting these photos. She is a fabulous dollmaker of mostly one of a kind steampunk dolls, and a wonderful photographer to boot! I saw in a 2011 Art Doll Quarterly photos of a most fantastical dolly made by her and was challenged in myself to attempt one. These photos represent my attempt and in no way are meant to represent Paula's stunning work.  Dryadia is 5'6" tall with her 24" tall cone hat. The little antique shoes are 6"Lx21/4"W. By the way, Paula said I did a wonderful job!

Dryadia comes from  the word dryad in Greek mythology meaning tree nymph, that is a female spirit of a tree. In  Greek drys signifies "oak". Thus dryads are specifically then "nymphs of oak trees". They are  normally considered to be very shy creatures. They are believed to live in the forest and be the protector of those with 'pure spirit' who enter the forest.

   Dryads like all nymphs, are supernaturally long-lived and tied to their homes, but some are a step beyond most nymphs. These are the 'hamadryads ' who are an integral part of their trees, such that if a tree dies, the 'hamadryad' associated with it dies as well. For these reasons, dryads and the Greek Gods punished any mortals who harmed trees without first propitiating the tree-nymp.

 They can be rather curious creatures and though they dwell deep in the forest they will sometimes drift near the edge where they can see the 'humans' play. They are swift and fleeting and almost impossible to see. If you are able to spot a dryad in the trees it is said to be good luck.

  Dryadia is 5'6" tall with her 24" tall cone hat. The little shoes are real antiques and are 6"Lx2 1/4"W. Her underslip and dress were made by hand-stitching and on my antique sewing machine. Her socks are sleeves cut from a  child's lightweight vintage sweater. Dryadia is made of paper clay using my own special recipe. She is painted with artists acrylics and several coats of protective sealant. She was definitely a labor of love!

A Grand and Magical Whimsy Floral Tuffet

Magical, whimsical, enchanting, decadent, eye catching, flirty, frou frou, sassy, elegant, fun, girly-girl!  This work of art is a must have fun addition to your home decor! This is a one of a kind handcrafted whimsical 3-legged  paper mache and fabric tuffet by doll artist Jan Moore-Petty of Cheeky Rose Boutique.

 

Quite substantial in size it measures a grand 54 inches in diameter, 15 inches tall with the hand-sculpted shoes measuring approximately 7 inches in length. The base is sculpted from  multiple layers of  reinforced durable paper mache, hand painted with artists' acrylics and sealed with several coats of
protectant.

  The fabric top is constructed from many layers of premium soft lightweight loft batting and covers a round paper mache base. The primary
fabric is gorgeous peachy pink with blue, teal and green florals. Embellished with feather boas, specialty ribbons and finished with a giant teal sunflower
in the center. It can be used as a footstool, at bedside for your favorite book or magazine or just as delicious eye candy.

 This enchanting tuffet will bring you many years of enjoyment. As with any one of a kind art piece or upholstered furniture keep from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures to insure that the beautiful colors stay vibrant and bright.

 This is my second handmade tuffet. The pink one sold to in ebayer  in 2010.

A New Tuffet For Miss Muffet

Little Miss Muffet has been bugging me about her getting a new tuffet!  I'm working my fingers to the bone Miss Muffet! The three legged base is made from paper mache. The peachy-pink and teal blue floral print I've had in my stock for several years. I knew it would come in handy someday!! It should be completed in a day or two, so get off my back Miss Muffet!  Have a blessed lovely weekend!

Goodies From An Angel!

 A gift from my lovely friend and wonderful artist  Teresa of "a magical whimsy"! This delightful french styled pillow was handmade with the prettiest colors and fabrics ever! The detail is divine and I love, love, love it! It shall go in my "Hall of Fame" favorite goodies! Thank you so much my friend!
